TakingItGlobal Reflection

The first time I was involved with TakingItGlobal was approximately a year ago. The idea of working with TakingItGlobal was the teachers'. The classes started to get involved on the website. One year later my class in the new school year, I felt that this was something that we were just pretending to do, just like an economics project done earlier in the school year. I felt contagious when TIG actually came to see us. When I heard about the project, I didn't think that we would be doing this in real life. The announcing of the project seemed like a fantasy or a story. When I started doing the project, I started out not being very comfortable with new people that I don't keep in touch with. Before the yearlong project, our tasks were quite easy. TIG visited us and told us to look around the site to get used to it. The class did small projects like posting updates, discussions, and comments on artwork and articles. I wouldn't have known that these were tests of what you strongly believe in and will decide your group until our teachers had told us. From then on...

The process of accomplishing the project by May 20th was harsh and we all had hard times where everyone was rushing and adding details. The project included making posters, business cards, film, display boards, sending business letters, and much more. The assigning of groups under the ten main understandings was very exciting, but unusual. I never would have known that they (the people who matched the people with the understandings) would decide the understandings with the people that feel strong for a certain understanding. I felt that the process of completing the project was very critical in the first few months. Everyone wasn’t doing much for the groups at first, but artwork was one of the first assignments to complete. I wasn’t until the last few months that all of the group members started to take jobs very seriously - some more than others. I felt that the film and the brochure took a long time to make it just right. A lot of editing was required, done by all the group members-one after another, but none of them made it into the final product. Everything else worked out fine. I agree that there were a few arguments, but that’s how it’s supposed to be. The group members worked on their own assigned jobs because there were still a lot left to do. Everything else seemed easy. That is why they were the ones that were finished first. We ended up folding the brochures and making extra business cards on the day of the “Globalize This!” night. On the night of “Globalize This!” I felt more used to talking with people that went around to ask questions. This ended up being like this because those people are people that I don’t know and that they will not come up to me one day and comment on it because there is a very small chance of finding me again. During this process, I have noticed that my group members were behaving much more helpful to each other than usual.

After I knew that the TakingItGlobal film project was over, I felt a form of joy and little sorrow. Since I had to work with these people in my group for 5-7 months, I ended up sitting with them for a long period of time, but the result worked out better. I felt that everyone had learnt a bit from the demonstrations done by the TakingItGlobal staff. This project has made communication with group members easier and has left us with valuable resources and skills for the near future. I feel thankful for this opportunity of this project because this has been the only class to do this and will always be. (For now) We learnt how everyone has to work together and contribute more time into pressurizing times.
